Taryn Nelson - TPACK Reflection

I think that it is important to plan your lesson plans with TPACK in mind. If a teacher does this it will make them and their lesson plans well rounded. A teacher needs to have a good amount of content knowledge, pedagogical knowledge, and technological knowledge in their teaching methods to the best of their capability in order to give their students the best education possible. However, technology isn't always available in all school settings so this can make it difficult for teachers to truly fulfill the TPACK standards.

  1. If we don't know what were talking about then we are not really benefiting our students. If we do know what we are talking about, then I feel we should use every resource possible to help our students better understand the subject and succeed in the classroom. Being a well rounded teacher through TPACK is really helpful.

  2. All three, C,P, and T will make all teachers well rounded and balanced. This will benefit both the students and teachers and will extend their knowledge in the classrooms. I agree how hard it may be especially for small schools who do not have as much funding for technology and that can be a problem.

  3. The best teachers that I can remember having over the years were those that were well rounded. As a student it is hard to set through a class where you can tell that teacher really doesn't know what they are teaching. Its almost as bad to sit through a class where the teacher is trying to use technology, but is not really sure how to use it properly. The TPACK method is really just a way for educators to make sure they are covering all bases.

  4. I agree with you that to become well rounded as a teacher you need the entire TPACK. I also think that technology is easier for smaller schools to get and use because I attended four small high schools, and all of them have tablets and computers that are new. I think that it is easier for smaller schools to get tablets because all they really need to do is apply for a grant for technology and use that money to purchase tech. Also, a small school does not have to purchase thousands of tablets for their students; instead they only need to purchase 100, 200 tablets.

  5. It's sad that there are so many schools that cannot afford technology. Usually it's the ones that don't have access to these resources that need them the most. With technology going in the direction that it is, we will soon NEED to incorporate it into the classroom in order for our students to get a lot out of our material.

  6. There is many schools that do not have the technology available to them which is too bad because technology runs our world now and those educators are not able to demonstrate to students the uses of it. I also agree with you that using TPACK will improve our lesson plans as teachers.

  7. Going to a school where we didn't have the use of modern technology, it was very difficult to stay engaged during class because all we did was read from the text books. Now being in college and having power points to look at and take notes has been very helpful through the years and I have observed that my own learning capabilities have progressed by using technology within the classrooms.

  8. Yes, many schools do not have the funds to afford technology and it would be very advantageous for parents, students and teachers to have technological resources, however technology is not always defined the same way in other places as we define it. To us technology can be a computer, a tablet, the Internet yet this technology is considered "transparent" or outdated in other places. Before, technology to us was having a desktop at home and a "beeper" or flip phone, now that technology is "transparent" to us. Yet when that was the only technology we had, we made the best out of it. If other schools don't have what we call technology, that doesn't mean students can't benefit from the resources they do have.

  9. I like that you included the diagram in your post. I also agree that teachers should definitely keep TPACK in mind when making lesson plans. It's sad that not all schools have the access to technology that the students need but hopefully they will soon.

  10. I think that TPACK will help all teachers become more resourceful and help fulfill the needs of students. Teachers that truly want to see their students succeed in their classroom will stop at nothing to make it happen.

  11. Your reflection brings up one aspect regrading the tool we are using now-blogger! Recently, blogs begun to emerge as a useful type of educational technology. The literature discusses a number of interesting possibilities for the use of blogs. For example, it is suggested that students can use blogs to publish their own writings, discuss group assignments, peer review each other’s work, collaborate on projects and manage their digital portfolios.
Overall, from my perspective as a teacher, I believe that the blogs added a new dimension to my teaching effectiveness by enabling me to do things that were not possible otherwise, either with or without other technology. Initially, I saw blogging as a means by which I could provide my reflections to address emerging issues relevant to students’ learning. Blog technology allows students as readers of my reflections to post their comments. Blog can also be used as a resource distribution medium. I understood that it is appropriate for students to also maintain their own blogs, where they could reflect upon learning that took place in class sessions, present their work and express ideas and concerns. Once I began reading and reviewing students’ blogs, it became obvious that this activity is time-consuming due to having to follow up all blogs individually and to keep track of new posts and comments soon after they had been added…But, I still love doing it!!

  12. Although financial reasons often hinder a school's capability to offer certain technology in the classroom, I agree that it is imperative that educators do everything in their power to become well rounded and proficient in the use of technology and all it has to offer.
